Student Support Services

Leadership.

The team behind systemic equity, social-emotional learning, and student safety across every Durham Public Schools campus.

Student Support Services oversees the work of more than fifty professional school counselors across Durham Public Schools. Together, we set the standard for what comprehensive, equity-driven counseling looks like — from a kindergartener's first day to a senior signing their college acceptance.

Leadership coordinates district-wide programming, advocates for counselor caseloads and resources, and partners with principals, teachers, and families to make sure every student has an adult in their corner.

What we focus on

Systemic equity

Removing barriers, designing for the students furthest from opportunity, and partnering with families as experts on their children.

Social-emotional learning

Building the skills, vocabulary, and adult relationships that help students navigate themselves, each other, and the world.

Safety & belonging

Tier-1 prevention, crisis response, and the small daily practices that make a school feel like a place where you matter.
